Happy New Year!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and some time to relax and also enjoy some favourite activities with friends and family.

We are resuming our weekly word wall words with Week 14.  Please continue to practise word wall words with your children and encourage them to recognize them in different contexts (e.g., in books, posters, signs, etc.).  Words will continue to be updated weekly on the top right side of the blog.

Again, if you have not done so, I encourage you to help your child log into Raz-kids and Dreambox. Individual logins were provided in the agendas in October with an accompanying letter.  These are excellent programs that will help your child to succeed with reading and math. Both sites can be easily accessed by clicking the respective images on the left side bar of this blog.

In Math, we will be focusing on describing, sorting, and classifying 2D shapes by their attributes.  Students will explore 2D shapes through hands-on activities.  In Language, we are focusing on descriptive writing and visualizing while reading to help deepen students' understanding of text. In Science we are beginning our unit on Materials, Objects, and Structures and in Music, we will be exploring rhythm and beat and responding to various musical pieces.  In Health, we will be discussing healthy eating and making healthy choices.  In Family Life, we will be concluding Theme 2, Living in Relationship, and the Grade 1s will be responsible for introducing our next gospel value of Excellence, later this month.
